For the security of all areas, gas extinguishing is the optimal solution. The extinguishing agent ensures that no additional damage is caused. This allows for a rapid restart of equipment and/or processes after extinguishing. Extinguishing gases are not electrically conductive, so there is no danger to persons with electrical installations. Furthermore, there is no risk of short circuits during and after extinguishing.

Maintenance and installation of automatic fire suppression systems

Automatic fire suppression systems, such as CO2, inert, chemical, and aerosol systems, are suitable for situations where water cannot be used for extinguishing. Consider computer rooms, servers, switch and control cabinets, and storage rooms containing hazardous substances. The choice of fire suppression systems must be carefully considered and is a matter for experts.

Two types of extinguishing systems

Space fire suppression

In the case of a room discharge, it is assumed that the room is enclosed by floors, walls and a ceiling. A certain gas density must be present to maintain the extinguishing concentration in the room.

When openings are present, you must account for additional extinguishing gas supply. If equipment is present in electrical cabinets, these cabinets must be sufficiently open or extinguishing gas nozzles must be fitted in the cabinets.

Object extinguishment

In object suppression, for example with a gravure printing press or production machine, there are generally no enclosing walls. The extinguishing effect is based on the fact that the object is completely enveloped with extinguishing gas, so the oxygen concentration drops.

Fire extinguishing gas CO2 is used in virtually all object extinguishing situations. A fictional volume is calculated which is larger than the actual volume.

Various types of extinguishing gases

Different types of extinguishing gases can be used for automatic extinguishing gas systems. The characteristics and important aspects of each type will be described in more detail below. Extinguishing gas systems must comply with NFPA 12, NFPA 2001, and NEN-EN 12094.
