Maintenance of fire extinguishers
Flame Control B.V. can service your fire extinguishers. The servicing we provide consists of the following points.
Annual maintenance
Revisit after 10 years
The fire extinguisher is dismantled and parts are replaced as needed; the hose, nozzle, and cartridge are pressure tested.
Replacement after 20 years
After 20 years, the fire extinguisher must be replaced and decommissioned.
5-yearly maintenance
Maintenance and replacement of the contents of wet and foam extinguishers. The extinguishers will be refilled and pressurised.
Extensive maintenance after 15 years
After 15 years, the extensive maintenance will take place again.

Check valve inspection
We can check the check valves simultaneously with the annual maintenance of the fire hose reel. The check valves will be fitted with a maintenance sticker as standard. You will receive a complete (digital) service report. This can also serve as a logbook. Any deficiencies will be explained and repaired on site.
Duty of care
The Building Decree and the Water Supply Act impose a duty of care on you as the owner and/or manager regarding the tap water installations in your building. Contaminated water must not flow back into the mains water supply network. Therefore, it is legally stipulated that check valves must be installed on fire hose reels connected to the public mains water supply. Water companies are increasingly checking whether you have fulfilled your responsibility in this regard.

As a recognised company, Flame Control B.V. tests your fire safety against NEN 4001 and advises you on it. This standard contains unambiguous guidelines for determining the number, type and locations of extinguishing agents.
Why is the main tap on my fire hose reel sealed?
The stagnant water in fire hoses can harbour the Legionella bacterium at certain temperatures. To prevent Legionella infection, the main valves on fire hose reels must be sealed.
Important points to consider
- Buildings are zoned based on activities, fire risk, and accessibility.
- Adequate basic security is determined per zone.
- In addition, supplementary security is installed for specific fire risks (server room, electrical control cabinet, etc.).
- CO2 fire extinguishers will henceforth be used as supplementary safety measures or for small Class B fire risks.
- The locations of fire extinguishing agents are marked with pictograms.
Can I use my fire hose reel for practice?
Be careful and reserved when using fire hose reels in situations other than fires. Flush the fire hose reel for a prolonged period for the fire safety drill. After use, have the fire hose reel re-inspected and re-sealed by us.
