Thermal Runaway Fluid (TRF) offers a revolutionary approach to combating lithium-ion battery fires compared to other agents. Additionally, it can also effectively tackle Class A, B, and F fires. The product, described as a super coolant, is approved according to the NTA8133 standard for lithium fires.
TRF is the only fluorine-free liquid that fights lithium battery fires using patented technologies. It extinguishes the fire and removes heat simultaneously, preventing thermal runaway and re-ignition.

Hoe werkt Thermal Runaway Fluid?
A fire starts when heat is released and comes into contact with oxygen, creating a flammable vapour. Our product works by drastically reducing the heat in the fuel at a molecular level. This happens via an endothermic reaction, whereby energy and heat are absorbed. This prevents the creation of flammable vapour, and interrupts the fire.
For volatile fuels such as alcohol or lithium-ion batteries, our product goes a step further by suffocating the oxygen released during the fuel's decomposition process. By removing both heat and oxygen, the product eliminates two crucial elements of the fire triangle, rendering the fuel inert and extinguishing the fire.
What tests/demonstrations did we carry out?
We have test data showing how a lithium-ion battery rapidly rose from -20 to over 400 degrees Celsius. By applying TRF, the temperature was immediately reduced to 160 degrees and within 75 seconds to a safe temperature below 45 degrees. TRF stopped the rapid heating, prevented electrode degradation, and protected the polymer separator, thereby preventing thermal runaway.

How is the heat removed from the fire?
Much like an exothermic reaction, where energy is released as heat to cause a fire, our product (TRF) works via an endothermic reaction. This is where the liquid absorbs energy and associated heat from the surrounding areas affected by the heat source. In turn, this cools the environment and prevents re-ignition.
Why don't conventional extinguishing agents work?
Conventional extinguishing methods can combat the initial fire but cannot address thermal runaway because they do not lower the temperature quickly enough. This allows the battery cell to continue breaking down and create an internal oxygen supply, which sustains the fire.
