According to the law, all portable fire extinguishers must be inspected and maintained at least once a year by a REOB-certified maintenance company. This obligation stems from the Building Decree and the Working Conditions Act, and is intended to ensure fire safety in buildings.
The checks are carried out according to the standards of the NEN 2559 (for portable fire extinguishers) and BS EN 2659 (for fire hose reels). In the absence of current maintenance, the fire brigade may intervene or the insurance company may decide not to pay out for damages.
During an annual maintenance check, a certified mechanic will inspect, among other things:
